The Power in the Name

The Power in the Name

If the name of an ordinary mortal man given by God has the power to change his life, how much more are the names of God that are contained in his word? When the baby Jesus was about to be named, it was an angel of the Lord from heaven that came to deliver the message to the Virgin Mary about the type of name that the child should bear.

Luke 1:31

And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.

It was also in the same encounter that the angel told Mary the meaning of the name, Emmanuel meaning God with us. The meaning of the name God is with us is contained in the Bible. If God is with us or for us, wh0 then can be against us? We’ll come to that later when we are praying the names of God but for now, I want to resist every temptation to veer off from the subject under discussion.

There was tremendous power in the name of Jesus that even while he was on earth miracles, signs, and wonders were performed by the disciples in the name of Jesus.

Luke 10:17-18

And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.

And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

The Bible tells us in the book of Luke that Jesus gave authority to the disciples to go and cast out spirits and demons. The Bible says they returned with testimonies that even demons bow to them in the name of Jesus. Now, this happened even before Jesus was crucified on the Cross of Calvary. This happened even before the exaltation of his name after his death. If the name of Jesus before his death carries so much power, what do you think the name will do now after his death? The Bible tells us in the book of Philippians 2:8-10:

And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

The name of Jesus is so powerful that at the mention of that name every knee must bow and every tongue must confess that Jesus is Lord. Everything on the earth and in heaven and under the heavens has a knee. Whenever a person is healed in the name of Jesus, it was that sickness that bowed its knees to the name of Jesus. Whenever a person is delivered in the name of Jesus, it was a particular thing that bowed to the name of Jesus. When an accident is stopped in the name of Jesus, it was the spirit of the accident that bow to the name of Jesus. Think of it! Anything at all that was stopped as a result of the name of Jesus, that thing simply bowed to the name of Jesus. The Bible already said that at the mention of the name of Jesus every knee in heaven and on the earth must bow. So every day as the name of Jesus is being called across the world, diverse knees are bowing down every second. Why? Jesus is God! And the name of Jesus is the name of God. And the name of God has so much power.

Let’s go to the Old Testament and see how powerful the name of God is. One of the names of God is Jehovah Jireh, which means God my provider. Did God provide for Abraham in answer to the name Jehovah Jireh? Yes, he did and prevented Abraham from sacrificing his only son, Isaac (Genesis 22:14). The Bible is the word of God and it contains the power of God. This is why the Bible says is my word not like a hammer and fire that break every rock into pieces? The same Bible says where the word of the King is, there is power. The question is, what type of power? Of course, the power of God. And is God a King? Of course, he is. And the names of God that we are going to be praying throughout the pages of this book are contained in the Bible, God’s word. So we are praying the names of God that are contained in the word of God and the Bible tells us that the word of God is power. If you are praying the name Jehovah Jireh, that name must answer for you because the name has power. If you are praying the name Jehovah M’ Kaddesh, then the manifestation of God as a holy God must be seen in your life as a result of the power of that name. Whatever names of God as we will soon be praying, must manifest in your life. This is a result of the power in the word of God.
